About AAMVA PDF417 barcodes
Every North American driver licence carries a PDF417 barcode encoded to the AAMVA DL/ID Card Design Standard. It starts with a compliance header (@, record separators, the issuer identification number and version), then a DL subfile of three-letter element identifiers such as DCS (family name), DAQ (licence number) and DBB (date of birth). Date order differs between US (MMDDYYYY) and Canadian (YYYYMMDD) issuers — this tool handles that per jurisdiction.
For developers testing scanners and parsers. Everything is computed locally; nothing is uploaded. Do not use generated data to create or imitate real identity documents.
About this tool
This AAMVA driver license barcode generator encodes driver license data into the PDF417 barcode format used on the back of North American licenses and ID cards. It follows the AAMVA DL/ID card design standard, including subfile structure and data elements.
The tool is intended for developers, testers and researchers working with ID scanning systems. All encoding happens client-side in your browser, and the generated barcode can be downloaded as a high-resolution image for testing parsers and verification software.
